The Zimmer Unicompartmental (Uni Knee) High Flex Knee System

The Zimmer Uni High Flex Knee is an advanced partial knee replacement that's designed for those who need joint replacement but only have damage on one side—or compartment—of their knee and are no longer as active as they once were because of pain.

Unlike some unicompartmental knee implants, the Zimmer Uni High Flex Knee accommodates deep knee bending, which is referred to as high flexion. High flexion is particularly important if you enjoy activities such as golf, gardening, or playing with small children, during which kneeling is common. The Zimmer Uni High Flex Knee does not guarantee deep knee bending; however, it is designed to safely accommodate up to 155º of flexion in patients who are able to achieve it.

In addition, the Uni High Flex Knee was designed for placement using today's minimally invasive techniques, which, if you are a candidate, preserves more of your natural anatomy and is helping many people get back to life and work faster than patients who undergo traditional knee replacement surgery.

In clinical studies, Zimmer Unicompartmental knee replacements have a 98% cumulative success rate at 10 years, which is one of the highest success rates seen in unicompartmental knees to date.

The Zimmer Gender Solutions® High-Flex Knee

Zimmer Gender Solutions High-Flex Knees are specially made to fit the unique anatomical shape of a woman's knee. They feature:

  • A Thinner Profile
    The bone in the front of a woman's knee is typically less prominent than in a man's. Traditional implants have a thickness in front that may end up making them feel "bulky," which may result in pain and a decrease in range of motion. The Zimmer Gender Solutions High-Flex Knee has a thinner profile to accommodate this anatomical difference between men and women.
  • More Natural Movement
    The angle between the hip and the knee affects how the kneecap moves over the thighbone when the knee is in motion. Women have a distinct shape that frequently results in a different angle between the hip and the knee when compared with men. The Zimmer Gender Solutions High-Flex Knee accounts for this difference, allowing for more natural movement.
  • Contoured Shape
    The Zimmer Gender Solutions High-Flex Knee has a contoured shape to more closely match the narrower anatomy of a woman's knee. This contouring provides for a more precise fit and may prevent the implant from overhanging the bone and potentially pressing on or damaging surrounding ligaments or tendons.

The NexGen® LPS-Flex Mobile and LPS-Mobile Bearing Knee Systems

The NexGen LPS-Flex Mobile and LPS-Mobile Bearing Knee Systems are total knee replacements that are designed to both bend and rotate. Each system includes a metal femoral component that replaces the end of the thigh bone (femur), a metal tibial base plate that replaces the top of the shin bone (tibia), and a plastic articular surface component that is loosely attached to the tibial base plate and serves as artificial cartilage between the femoral component and the tibial base plate. The femoral component and tibial base plate are implanted using bone cement. As in most total knee implant systems, the femoral component of a mobile-bearing knee rides on top of the articular surface component to provide the knee's bending movement. A mobile-bearing knee design allows the articular surface component to rotate on the tibial base plate to allow free movement as needed.

The Zimmer Gender Solutions® Patello-Femoral Joint System

The Zimmer Gender Solutions Patello-Femoral Joint System is an early intervention option for active patients that preserves more bone while allowing for a smaller incision. This means you have the potential for a quicker recovery. The procedure is designed to be used with a Zimmer Minimally Invasive Solutions™ technique, which minimizes damage to soft tissue. During the procedure, Zimmer advanced surgical instruments assist your surgeon in achieving accurate implant placement.

The Zimmer Gender Solutions Patello-Femoral joint is designed to accommodate the differences between male and female knee anatomy, providing more natural knee movement as the knee bends. This treatment is not appropriate for everyone; only your orthopedic surgeon can tell if you are a candidate for patello-femoral knee replacement.

DeNovo NT® Natural Tissue Graft

DeNovo NT Graft consists of natural human cartilage and is used in the repair of joint cartilage damage. It is an allograft, which means that it is obtained from another person. Unlike organ transplants, however, there is a very low risk of the DeNovo NT Graft being rejected by the body. Allografts have been used successfully for many years in a wide variety of medical procedures, including joint repair and dental restoration.

The graft offers single-stage surgery where small pieces of juvenile joint cartilage are implanted into the affected area with a simple surgical technique using a natural sticky glue called fibrin. The graft contains living cartilage cells that have the potential to grow and repair the defect area. In a recent study, patients with knee defects treated with DeNovo NT Graft reported less pain and an improved ability to function.

  • Is donor tissue safe?
    Zimmer developed DeNovo NT Graft in partnership with ISTO Technologies, a registered tissue bank with the FDA that is accredited by the American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB). The AATB is a private organization that develops standards by which tissue banks and processors operate. These standards are intended to prevent disease transmission and promote quality and safety in cell and tissue banking and transplantation. As part of ISTO’s commitment to Good Tissue Practices, DeNovo NT Graft donors are screened and tested for disease pathogens; donors are cleared according to FDA requirements. Each lot of donated tissue is aseptically processed and individually tested prior to release to reduce the risk of bacterial and fungal contamination. The tissue has been demonstrated to be immune privileged (at reduced risk from being rejected by the body). DeNovo NT Graft has been used safely in nearly 1,000 human clinical cases to date (January 2010). In a preclinical horse study, no adverse events or indications of infections or rejections of the human DeNovo NT implant were observed.
  • Why use juvenile cartilage?
    Although adult cartilage has limited capacity to heal by itself, juvenile cartilage has much greater ability to regenerate. For this reason, juvenile cartilage tissue is used in the DeNovo NT Graft.
