The Metasul Large Diameter Heads (LDH) are available to match
every Durom acetabular component. Within the young, active
patient group there are many cases where resurfacing is not possible
due to bone quality or morphology. Therefore the combination of a
Metasul LDH and, the Durom acetabular component and one of
Zimmer’s clinically proven stems provides a hip system which retains
the key aspects of Durability and Range of Motion.
Smooth
The Metasul LDH components are manufactured to the same
exacting standard as the Durom resurfacing heads. They are made
from the same wrought-forged high carbon alloy as the Metasul
28 and 32mm heads and the Durom components. The worught-forged,
high carbon CoCr alloy offers considerable tribological advantages
over cast CoCr alloys. Wrought-forged CoCr is harder than cast CoCr
and demonstrates excellent wear resistance. Wrought-forged can also
be more highly polished than cast CoCr, reducing surface roughness and
enhancing lubrication.
Stable
LDHs increase the distance the head must displace before
dislocation.
This results in greater joint stability. Many total hip replacements
result in limitation of range of motion due to component-to-component
impingement. ROM is directly related to the femoral head size: an
increased articulation diameter dramatically enhances ROM.
