Innovative

Advanced engineering and materials technology coupled with Swiss precision manufacturing have resulted in a truly conservative hip resurfacing system.

This is because it requires less bone removal than with conventional THA, yet provides an increased range of motion with greater stability. Increased range of motion is achieved because the acetabular component subtends 165 degrees as opposed to full hemisphere.

Unique

In addition to the Metasul Technology, the acetabular component ensures maximum primary stability through press-fit and circumferential fins. Secondary stability is achieved through bony ingrowth into the Prolock™ Ti VPS Coating, (1). Titanium offers a more biocompatible bone ingrowth surface of conventional hip resurfacing devices (2) which leads to a potentially more stable implant.

Smooth

The wrought-forged, high carbon CoCr Metasul alloy offers considerable tribological advantages over cast CoCr alloys. Wrought-forged CoCr is harder than cast CoCr and demonstrates excellent wear resistance.

Wrought-forged can also be more highly polished than cast CoCr, reducing surface roughness and enhancing lubrication. The diametral clearance of Metasul bearinghas been optimised for the Durom: it is low enough to assure an optimum lubrication mode and high enough to avoid the risk of clamping of the articulation brought about through deformation of the acteabular component under load.

Preserves

The acetabular component has a wall thickness of 4mm allowing maximum preservation of bone without compromising the technical features of Metasul bearing and negates the risk of clamping. The 165 degree acetabular component is less than a hemisphere and therefore similar in shape to the natural acetabulum. This means that a full hemisphere does not need to be reamed from the acetabulum and therefore bone is conserved.
