MBK
The MBK is designed to provide enhanced stability and kinematic function
with or without a functioning PCL. By providing full conformity throughout
the range of motion polyethylene contact stress is reduced to a level way
below the yield strength of polyethylene. This limits potential wear debris
reducing the likelihood of osteolysis.
Just as natural flexion/extension involves internal/ external rotation of the tibia, the MBK articular surface permits up to a total of 530 internal/external rotation and 4.5mm of A/P translation. An anterior stop helps prevent the spin-outs reported with other mobile systems.

Reducing contact stress
Maximising femoral/tibial conformity throughout the entire range of motion helps reduce contact stress. One-to-one conformity at the articulating interface in the coronal and sagittal planes maximises contact area, with full contact occurring from 0 to 105 degrees of flexion. Such conformity reduces contact stresses to below the yield strength of polyethylene.
Facilitating axial rotation
Just as natural flexion/extension involves internal/external rotation of the tibia, the MBK articular surface permits up to a total of 53 degrees internal/external rotation and 4.5mm of A/P translation. An anterior pivot point and rotational stop on the MBK tibial base plate help prevent the spin-outs reported with other mobile systems.
MBK Mobile Bearing Knee
The MBK Knee is designed for :
- Adequate M/L, A/P, and varus/valgus collateral ligament stability
- Normal activity levels
- Preservation or sacrifice of the posterior cruciate ligament
The snap-fit, top loaded articulating surface attaches securely to prevent dislocation. The anterior rail on the base plate enhances stability in full extension. The base plate, made from highly polished cobalt chrome, is designed to reduce articular friction and polyethylene wear.
