Candidate Profile
MIS Quad-Sparing Knee Procedure
- Do you have frequent pain, swelling and stiffness in your knee?
- Do the pain and stiffness in your knee interfere with your daily life, and limit your ability to be as active as you would like?
- Has the pain become progressively worse?
- Do you regularly take pain relievers to ease the pain?
- Do you use a cane or walker to get around?
- Do you sometimes or always limp when you walk?
Answering “yes” to any one of those questions could indicate that you have arthritis in your knee. If nonsurgical interventions such as medication, physical therapy and the use of a cane or other walking aid no longer help alleviate the pain, you might consider knee replacement.
Talk to your doctor to determine whether you are a candidate for knee replacement procedures including Zimmer MIS Quad-SparingTKA, Zimmer MIS Mini-Incision TKA or partial knee replacement with the Zimmer MIS procedure for the Zimmer® Unicompartmental or M/G Unicompartmental Knee (Uni Knee).
Your doctor will consider a number of factors to determine whether you
are a candidate for knee replacement, including your medical history,
weight, health status and anatomical structure.
Knee replacement is considered when:
- Joint damage is visible on x-ray
- Episodes of pain, swelling, and stiffness in the knee are prevalent
- Persistent pain and disability interfere with daily life activities
- Pain is not relieved by non-surgical alternatives
- Mobility is extremely limited
